This product can be used to protect wood components used in rabbit hutches, bird houses and other small animal stalls. Small rodents such as rabbits, hamsters or guinea pigs like to gnaw and chew on the wood of their stalls which is why it is important to use a purely eco-friendly and non-toxic product.

Why Use a Sealant for Small Animal Stalls?
It is important to use a protective sealant for wood components found in small animal stalls or stables both indoors and outside. If the animals are kept outside (like rabbits or birds), the sealant protects against weather effects and other environmental influences. Additionally, LIXUM Pro – Small Animal Stall Sealant effectively prevents fungal and lichen growth, while limiting any potential dry or wet rot. In indoor use (like guinea pigs or hamsters), the protective coating seals out moisture when, for example, water bowls are overturned. The sealant makes cleaning easier and gives the stall/stable a presentable appearance.
The Disadvantages of Conventional Glazes
Wood components are often treated with oil-based paints or linseed oil, which offer neither adequate weather resistance nor protection against fungal attack. The oils found in conventional paints eventually wash out, requiring frequent renovation coats in order to protect and care for the wood surfaces.
Protection lacquers or solvent-based sealants are also not recommended since these only lie on the surface without penetrating into the wood components. Then, as temperatures fluctuate, the wood begins to swell, shrink or crack. Eventually these conventional lacquers or sealants will fracture and as moisture seeps in the natural structure of the wood becomes damaged. In addition, the chemical and synthetic ingredients used in these conventional paints/sealants may negatively affect the behavior and health of small animals.
